  • Applications

    3-Carene (CAS 13466-78-9) is a naturally occurring aromatic monoterpene from pine resin that is widely employed as a mint-herbal flavour in candies, beverages and tobacco; a perfume, soap, deodorant and scented-candle ingredient for its sweet woody odour; a low-toxicity bio-solvent for paints, printing inks, varnishes and cleaners; a feedstock for terpene-phenolic resins, bio-based polycarbonates, DCPD resins and synthetic menthol; a flow-improving aroma additive in biodiesel; an intermediate for agrochemicals, mosquito repellents, insecticides and wood-protective coatings; and a promising pharmaceutical agent owing to anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities, also used in traditional aromatherapy and steam inhalation to soothe the respiratory tract.
