Applications
Octadecane (CAS 593-45-3) is a long-chain alkane (C18) used primarily as a wax-like component and as a phase-change material (PCM) for thermal energy storage, with typical applications in building materials, textiles, and electronics. In cosmetics and personal care it acts as a waxy emollient and structuring agent to improve texture and slip. It is also blended into paraffin wax systems for coatings, inks, and packaging to adjust hardness and handling. In polymers and coatings, it can serve as a non-polar diluent or wax additive to aid processing and modify rheology. Additionally, as a base oil or component in industrial lubricants, octadecane provides a stable hydrocarbon carrier for lubricating formulations.
