  • Applications

Methyl eugenol (CAS 93-15-2) is widely employed as a flavouring and fragrance ingredient in food, cosmetics and tobacco, as an aroma component in perfumes, soaps, candles and cleaners; it serves as a highly potent biological attractant for Bactrocera fruit flies in pheromone-baited traps, enabling pest monitoring and control in orchards; it is also an intermediate for the synthesis of vanillin, isoeugenol, pharmaceuticals and specialty chemicals, and is investigated for antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant properties, although its use is strictly regulated because of potential toxicity and carcinogenicity.
