Applications
Octanoic acid (also known as caprylic acid, CAS 124-07-2) finds extensive applications as a preservative and creamy flavor enhancer in foods, an emulsifier in sports drinks, a medium-chain fatty acid for rapid energy supply and an antimicrobial/antifungal agent in pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals, a skin-conditioning and emulsion-stabilizing ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products, a carrier for insecticides and veterinary medicines in agriculture, and an industrial intermediate for synthesizing lubricating esters, surfactants, plasticizers, rubber additives, printing inks, corrosion inhibitors, as well as in metal treatment, textile dyeing, and flavor-fragrance manufacturing.
