Java Citronella (also known as Red Lemongrass) is a type of lemongrass cultivated specifically for essential oil distillation. It has a relatively high distillation yield and a rich aroma, making it highly popular.

The plant has reddish-purple or slightly red-tinged stalk bases. Unlike edible lemongrass, this variety is grown only for fragrance extraction. Typically, about 100 kg of raw material is needed to produce 1 kg of essential oil. Java Citronella essential oil has a fresh, clean scent reminiscent of citrus fruits and roses, slightly sweet with a woody undertone. Unlike Lemongrass oil, which evokes a food-like aroma, Java Citronella retains a fresh lemongrass character without suggesting edibility. It is one of the most favored essential oils for room diffusers, deodorizing, and insect repellent products due to its affordable price and long-lasting scent.

Blending

Java Citronella essential oil has a very strong fragrance. It is often used to maintain brightness in a blend, creating a clean and refreshing impression. Familiar citrus notes such as Sweet Orange or Lemon, when combined, enhance energy and bring a radiant freshness for a new day. Oils like Geranium, Lavender, or Ylang Ylang soften the sharpness, adding more floral nuances. Since Java Citronella’s aroma is very powerful, it should be used with care to avoid overpowering other scents.

Aromatherapy

The scent of Java Citronella oil can deodorize and repel insects. Additionally, it has natural antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. You can add it to household cleaning solutions for a natural sense of cleanliness. For products applied directly to the skin, it must be diluted in accordance with IFRA’s recommended usage levels.

Use only under the guidance of a doctor and aromatherapy specialists.
Do not self-administer essential oils for ingestion or medical treatment.
