Applications
Phenethyl alcohol (CAS 60-12-8) is a naturally occurring, rose-scented liquid that serves as a key fragrance ingredient in fine perfumes, soaps, shampoos and creams, while also functioning as a bio-friendly solvent that stabilizes and diffuses volatile essential oils; in the food and beverage sector it is employed as a floral-fruity flavour enhancer and mouth-feel improver for candies, baked goods and wines; its mild antimicrobial activity further permits its use as a soft preservative in ophthalmic drops, injectables, sensitive-skin formulations and cell-culture storage media; the compound is additionally a precursor for the synthesis of aromatic esters and pharmaceuticals, a reference standard in flavour analysis, a viscosity modifier in printing inks, and an additive that improves gloss in premium polymers, resins and varnishes.
