Applications
Methyl palmitate (CAS 112-39-0) is the methyl ester of palmitic acid naturally present in palm oil, coconut oil and animal fats; its chemical inertness, moderate viscosity and mild odor make it widely employed as a biodiesel component, biodegradable lubricant base stock, nontoxic solvent, soft plasticizer for food-contact polymers, antifoaming agent in sugar refining, emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent in cosmetics, flavor carrier in foods, intermediate for surfactant synthesis, internal standard for GC-MS fatty-acid analysis, as well as a pharmaceutical excipient for microencapsulation and transdermal permeation enhancement.
