Applications
Furfural (CAS number: 98-01-1) is a biomass-derived platform chemical used to manufacture furfuryl alcohol, which is then polymerized into furfuryl resins for binders in foundry sands and cores in metal casting. It also serves as a solvent and processing aid in industrial manufacturing, notably in coatings, inks, adhesives, and metal cleaning. As a platform chemical, it enables downstream furan derivatives for polymers, coatings, and specialty plastics. In wood processing and pulping contexts, furfural is involved in resin and adhesive formulations used to bind wood products and laminates.
