Applications
Carveol, trans-(−)- (CAS 1197-07-5) is used mainly as a flavor and fragrance ingredient with herbal, minty, woody, and citrus-like notes to fine-tune accords in perfumes, deodorants, personal care and household products, and as a low-level food flavoring; in synthesis, this enantiomerically defined trans isomer serves as a chiral monoterpenoid building block for preparing carvone and related derivatives, is employed as an odor and chromatographic reference (GC/GC–MS, chiral separations) in aroma research, and has been investigated as a skin permeation enhancer, mild antimicrobial/antioxidant agent, and a potential bio-based intermediate or additive in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and green materials applications.
