  • Applications

Amyl alcohol (CAS 71-41-0) is a primary alcohol with a characteristic penetrating odor whose versatility makes it valuable across many sectors: it acts as a fruity-note builder in flavor and fragrance formulations, serves as a medium-volatility solvent for resins, paints, inks, adhesives and varnishes, is esterified to produce isoamyl acetate, isoamyl butyrate and other esters that impart banana, pear, apple or pineapple aromas to confectionery, beverages, essential oils and cosmetics, functions as an excipient, disinfectant component and injection additive in pharmaceuticals, performs as a surface-active agent in household and metal-cleaning products, enhances lubricity in cutting oils and greases, plasticizes and flexibilizes rubber and polymer matrices, works as a mobile-phase modifier in extraction and chromatography, participates in the synthesis of pesticides, dyes, plasticizers and fuel additives that raise octane numbers, and is being investigated as a biochemical stabilizer for enzymes and proteins, underscoring its broad multidisciplinary importance.
