    trans-1(7),8-p-Menthadien-2-ol is a monoterpenoid alcohol found in essential oils and is used prominently in fragrances to impart fresh terpenic, minty–herbal and slightly citrus nuances in fine perfumes, cosmetics, personal care, household cleaners and air-care; in flavors at trace levels as a modulator for mint, herbal, citrus and spice profiles; in aroma chemistry as an intermediate that can be oxidized/isomerized to ketones (e.g., the carvone family) or converted to terpenyl esters for flavor and fragrance, and as a building block for monoterpene derivatives, environmentally friendly surfactants and odor carriers; in R&D it serves as a probe substrate for menthanoid biosynthetic pathways, for assessing bioactivity (malodor counteractancy, antimicrobial and plant-derived insect-repellent potential) and for encapsulation/release systems, and it can function as a volatile terpenic solvent/co-solvent to enhance solubility and odor diffusion in formulations.
