  • Applications

γ-Decalactone (CAS 706-14-9) is a sweet, peach-smelling lactone widely applied in flavour, fragrance, cosmetic and sensory research industries; in foods it is added to beverages, yogurts, ice creams, jams, baked goods, candies and non-alcoholic products to impart natural peach, apricot, strawberry and creamy notes while masking processing off-odours; in cosmetics, γ-Decalactone appears in perfumes, lotions, shampoos, deodorants and lipsticks to provide fresh fruity nuances, increase softness and lessen dependence on harsh scent chemicals; the compound is also used as a GC-MS standard, as a bioscreening marker for fruit-aroma fermentations, in aroma-releasing packaging for fresh produce and as an eco-friendly insect attractant.
