Applications
Fenchyl alcohol (CAS 1632-73-1) is a monoterpenoid with a fresh pine-mint scent that is widely employed as a premium fragrance modifier in fine perfumes, bar soaps, shower gels, shampoos, deodorants, fabric softeners, scented candles and household cleaners; in the food industry it serves as a flavoring agent for candies, chewing gum, soft drinks, baked goods, seasonings and snacks while reinforcing citrus freshness and improving aroma persistence; in cosmetics it is exploited as a cooling sensate, odor masker, antioxidant stabilizer for essential-oil-rich formulations and as a low-odor solvent for actives; thanks to its chiral bicyclic structure, fenchyl alcohol is also a valuable stereochemical building block for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and optically pure aroma chemicals, as well as a bioactive probe in green chemistry research.
