Applications
Benzyl benzoate (CAS 120-51-4) is a versatile aromatic ester widely employed as a topical drug for scabies and pediculosis due to its potent acaricidal and insecticidal action, while also serving as a medium-polarity solvent for alkyd resins, nitrocellulose and synthetic polymers, functioning as a plasticizer that enhances flexibility and gloss in PVC and cellulose acetate, acting as a fragrance fixative and carrier in perfumery and cosmetics by retarding evaporation, moreover finding use in veterinary formulations, wood coatings, printing inks, specialty lubricants, flavoring additive in foods, mosquito-repellent finishing for textiles, and as a processing aid in rubber manufacture to lower compounding viscosity.
