Applications
Benzyl acetate (CAS 140-11-4) is a fragrant ester prized in both the flavour and fragrance industries for its naturally sweet jasmine-like note, making it a key perfuming agent in fine fragrances, scented soaps, deodorants and candles; in food technology it serves as an artificial flavour additive for peach, pear, strawberry, chewing gum and non-alcoholic beverages; in pharmaceuticals and tobacco it masks unpleasant active-ingredient odours, improves palatability of tablets and adds flavour nuance to aromatic tobacco blends; beyond sensorial uses, Benzyl acetate is also an effective intermediate solvent in the manufacture of alkyd resins, cellulose acetate, paints and printing inks because of its strong solvency for natural and synthetic resins, and it functions as a carrier in microencapsulation processes, a building block for surfactants, agrochemicals, epoxy resins and drug molecules, underscoring its versatility and relative safety across a wide spectrum of modern industrial applications.
