  • Applications

Acetic acid (ethanoic acid, CH₃COOH, CAS 64-19-7) finds versatile uses from food to heavy industry: it is the main component of vinegar for flavoring, preservation and antimicrobial control; serves as solvent and pH modifier in beverages, sauces and flavor formulations; acts as precursor for acetic anhydride, metal acetates and vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) to manufacture EVA plastics, paints, adhesives and cellulose acetate fibers; functions as descaling and scouring agent in textile, leather and medical equipment sectors; provides buffering and fixing in printing and photographic processing; works as excipient in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and agrochemicals; promotes esterification and amidation in laboratories; performs as deodorizer, disinfectant and surface cleaner, and is employed in water treatment, battery production, oil recovery, corrosion inhibition and as a calibration standard in chromatographic analysis.
