  • Applications

Lauryl alcohol (also known as dodecanol, CAS 112-53-8) is a C12 fatty alcohol with a faint odor and colorless appearance, widely used as a key feedstock for making ethoxylated and sulfated surfactants, providing foaming and thickening in soaps, shampoos, body washes and dish detergents; functioning as an emollient, emulsifier and humectant in cosmetics, creams and lipsticks; serving as a solvent or intermediate for esters in plasticizers, flavors, lubricants and printing inks; acting as a dry lubricant and antistatic agent in fiber processing; finding roles in metal-working fluids, lube oil additives and polymer processing lubricants; used as a carrier in agrochemical formulations and as an excipient in veterinary and pharmaceutical preparations; additionally employed in bio-based candle production, oil-field drilling surfactants, paper treatment and other industrial operations that require defoaming, dispersing or viscosity-modifying properties.
