Applications
L-Carveol (cis/trans mixture, CAS 99-48-9) is a characteristic mint-herbal flavor compound widely used in foods and beverages to impart a cool note to chewing gum, confectionery and soft drinks; in the fragrance and cosmetic industry it serves as a middle note for perfumes, soaps, personal-care and oral-hygiene products, and as an intermediate for synthesizing carvone, dihydrocarvone and various pharmaceutical derivatives owing to its stereoselective terpene backbone; moreover, it is exploited as a natural bio-preservative due to antibacterial, antioxidant and insect-repellent properties, while delivering a fresh green scent to household cleaners and industrial detergents.
