Applications
2-Methylundecanal (CAS 110-41-8) is a long-chain aliphatic aldehyde with a bright citrus–waxy, slightly fatty aldehydic odor; it is widely used as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrances, soaps, detergents, and home-care products to add sparkle, lift, and diffusion to top notes, reinforce clean soapy facets, and improve fabric substantivity; it performs well in alkaline systems (e.g., soap bases, laundry powders) and at very low dosages to tune citrus/aldehydic accords in both classic and modern compositions, and is also employed in air care, candles, fabric fresheners, and fragrance microcapsules; beyond perfumery it serves as an organic intermediate (reduction to 2-methylundecanol, oxidation to 2-methylundecanoic acid, formation of oximes/Schiff bases); safety considerations include potential irritation/sensitization, adherence to IFRA limits, and storage tightly closed, cool, and protected from oxidation.
