2-Cyclohexen-1-ol, 3-methyl-6-(1-methylethyl)-, (1R,6R)-rel- (CAS 16721-39-4) is a terpenic p-menthenol-type alcohol used mainly as a fragrance ingredient and intermediate, offering fresh, herbal, slightly woody terpenoid nuances that round out and boost diffusion in fine fragrances, detergents, personal care, and technical aroma applications; as the free alcohol or via its esters it can serve as a flavor modulator in foods and beverages where permitted; in organic synthesis it functions as a convenient building block toward menthone/menthol, carveol/carvone and other p-menthane derivatives via oxidation, hydrogenation, esterification or rearrangement, and thus appears as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, aroma chemicals, consumer additives, and for research on asymmetric catalysis, allylic oxidation, and stereo-controlled odor design; additionally, its moderate volatility and compatibility with polymers, surfactants, and microencapsulation systems make it suitable for long-lasting fragrance delivery and high-performance cleaning formulations.
