  • Applications

Salicylaldehyde (CAS 90-02-8) is an aromatic aldehyde with a characteristic almond-like odor that is widely employed as a flavor and fragrance ingredient in food, tobacco and cosmetics; it also serves as a versatile intermediate for the synthesis of coumarins, benzodiazepines, fungicides, pesticides, dyes and specialty polymers; owing to its concomitant phenolic and aldehydic functions it readily forms Schiff bases and hemiacetals, making it a popular chelating ligand in coordination chemistry, a reagent for colorimetric determination of Fe³⁺, Al³⁺, Co²⁺ and other metal ions, and a valuable building block for fluorescent probes, epoxy-curing agents, alkyd resins, optoelectronic materials and other research chemicals.
