    Neoisomenthol (CAS 491-02-1) is a menthol stereoisomer used primarily as a mint flavor/fragrance component and modifier: it imparts a gentle, cool, slightly herbal–woody mint character, enhances freshness, rounds and prolongs mint notes, and balances cooling when blended with other menthols; it is employed in confectionery, chewing gum, flavored beverages, lozenges, and dairy, as well as in toothpaste, mouthwash, lip care, shampoos, body washes, deodorants, and fine fragrances where a soft, clean cooling nuance is desired; additionally, it serves as an intermediate and chiral building block in organic synthesis (forming menthyl esters/urethanes as auxiliaries or protecting derivatives) to access enantioselective targets, as an analytical reference, and as a research tool for cooling-perception studies in flavor materials; it is often delivered via encapsulation to control release and is chosen to tune mint profiles without the intense cooling of l-menthol.
