Applications
Ethyl tiglate (CAS 5837-78-5) is a naturally occurring fragrant ester with a sweet tropical fruit odour reminiscent of ripe pineapple, mango, pear and white wine, therefore it is widely employed as a flavour modifier in soft drinks, syrups, ice cream, yoghurt, confectionery, chewing gum, baked goods and tobacco, and as a top-note ingredient in perfumes, air-fresheners, scented candles, shampoos, soaps and personal-care products that aim for a juicy, sunny character; in agriculture it is investigated as a biological lure for fruit-flies of the genus Anastrepha and as a natural aroma marker in biochemical studies; readily soluble in alcohol, glycerol and oils and recognised as FEMA GRAS, Ethyl tiglate also serves as an organic synthesis intermediate, a GC-MS reference standard and a fining agent to adjust bouquet in craft wines and beers, with effective dosage in the low ppm range.
