Applications
Ethyl myristate (CAS 124-06-1) is the ethyl ester of myristic acid with a pleasant, faintly coconut-like odor and finds wide application in flavor, fragrance, cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical fields: it serves as a fragrance carrier and fixative in perfumes, provides a dry, silky emollient feel in creams, lotions, lipsticks and shampoos, and acts as a solvent or penetration enhancer for lipophilic actives as well as a biodegradable lubricant in sensitive skin formulations; in food processing it contributes creamy, dairy and coconut notes and improves dispersion in fat-based systems; beyond that, ethyl myristate is employed as a green solvent for agrochemicals, as an additive in metalworking oils, as a plasticizer for biodegradable polymers and as a lipid surrogate or internal standard in biochemical research.
