  • Applications

(E)-2,5,5-Trimethylhepta-3,6-dien-2-ol (CAS 26127-98-0) is an acyclic monoterpene alcohol with a fresh, diffusive odor; it is used mainly in fragrances and personal care as a note builder in fine fragrances, soaps, detergents, and air care (adding citrus–herbal–light floral facets and improving lift and longevity), and as an intermediate to prepare esters (e.g., acetate, carbonate) and other terpene derivatives to tailor odor profiles; in flavor applications it may be dosed at very low levels where permitted; in organic synthesis and materials, its allylic tertiary hydroxyl enables esterification, alkylation, or incorporation into acrylates/urethanes to make scented monomers/oligomers for coatings, inks, and specialty polymers; it is also used as a reference standard in GC/GC–MS and as a substrate for studying oxidation, isomerization, and acid-catalyzed transformations of terpenes.
