Applications
Cyclohexene, 4-ethenyl-4-methyl-3-(1-methylethenyl)-1-(1-methylethyl)-, (3R-trans)- (CAS 20307-84-0) is a C15 cyclohexene-type sesquiterpene with multiple reactive double bonds that occurs as a trace constituent of essential oils; in practice it is used mainly as a reference standard for GC–MS/GC×GC metabolomics, essential-oil fingerprinting and raw-material QC, as a reaction substrate (e.g., epoxidation, hydroboration–oxidation, halohydrin/ozonolysis, selective hydrogenation) to access functionalized sesquiterpene derivatives for aroma chemicals, pharmaceutical intermediates and materials, as a model odorant in fragrance chemistry to probe resinous/woody notes, odor stability and matrix effects when designing nature-inspired blends, as an eco-chemical reference in studies of plant/insect volatiles and post-harvest changes, and as a target for early-stage bioactivity screening (antioxidant, antimicrobial, insect-repellent) within R&D, with potential evaluation as a precursor to resins/coatings after derivatization; note that it is not for direct human or food use without safety assessment and should be handled under controlled laboratory conditions in compliance with chemical regulations.
