    Camphene hydrate (CAS 465-31-6) is a monoterpene derivative with a camphoraceous–pine note, used primarily as an intermediate for terpenoid and camphor-derivative synthesis (e.g., borneol/isoborneol, bornyl acetate, camphor and related odoriferous esters), as a fragrance ingredient in detergents, cosmetics and personal care to impart cool camphoraceous tonality, mask odors and stabilize/slow fragrance release via its stable hydrate form, as a bio-based feedstock from turpentine for fine chemicals and perfumery, and as a model substrate in studies of terpenoid rearrangements and hydration–dehydration reactions; in practice, its use should include purity control, formulation compatibility testing, occupational exposure management, and compliance with IFRA/REACH/CLP rules for fragrance additives.
