    Calamenene (CAS 72937-55-4) is an aromatic sesquiterpene found in plant essential oils, used in perfumery and flavors for warm woody, herbal and slightly minty notes, as a reference standard in GC-MS, essential-oil profiling and natural products research, and as a molecular scaffold for the synthesis and optimization of analogs to probe bioactivity; at the preclinical level, calamenene and its derivatives have shown promising antibacterial activity (notably against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus), antifungal and antiparasitic effects (Leishmania, Trypanosoma), anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, as well as insect-repellent activity, supporting evaluation in essential-oil-based agrochemical and herbal formulations, although it is not an approved drug and should be handled and used in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory guidelines.
