Applications
(-)-Bisabolol oxide B (CAS 26184-88-3) is a sesquiterpenoid from German chamomile (also available synthetically) widely used in cosmetics and personal care for literature-reported soothing, anti-redness, anti-irritant, and antioxidant/antimicrobial effects, therefore appearing in sensitive-skin ranges, after-sun and after-shave care, baby care, post-procedure recovery, barrier-repair creams, and formulas with acids/retinoids to mitigate stinging, as well as in hair and scalp care to improve comfort; its antimicrobial activity supports odor control and can complement preservative systems, while its soft chamomile-like, honeyed note serves for fragrance masking and as a mid-note/fixative in perfumery; from a formulation standpoint it is oil-soluble, compatible with emulsions, surfactant-based cleansers, and anhydrous balms, suitable for leave-on and rinse-off formats, with typical use levels around 0.05–1.0% (higher when targeted), and it is also leveraged in oral-care rinses and toothpastes to support gum comfort and freshness; when used within regulatory limits it is generally well tolerated, though patch testing and concentration optimization are recommended to minimize individual sensitivity.
