    DL-Menthol, CAS 89-78-1, là dạng racemic của menthol với hương thơm mát dịu đặc trưng, được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong dược phẩm (làm thành phần giảm ho, thông mũi, giảm đau cơ, giảm ngứa da), trong thực phẩm và đồ uống (tạo vị the mát cho kẹo, chewing gum, chocolate, kem, nước giải khát), trong mỹ phẩm và sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân (kem đánh răng, nước súc miệng, dầu gội, sữa tắm, kem dưỡng sau cạo râu) cũng như trong công nghiệp hương liệu – nước hoa, thuốc lá, tinh dầu khuếch tán, sản phẩm chống côn trùng; ngoài ra nó còn được dùng như chất chuẩn quang học và môi trường phản ứng mang tính chất làm mát trong nghiên cứu hoá học, mang lại cảm giác lạnh tức thì, mùi hương sạch, che lấp mùi khó chịu, đồng thời tăng trải nghiệm cảm quan và giá trị thương mại cho sản phẩm cuối cùng.
