    Trong nghiên cứu và sản xuất hóa chất mịn, 12-Oxabicyclo[9.1.0]dodeca-4,7-diene, 1,5,9,9-tetramethyl- (CAS 74282-07-8) thường được xem xét như một khung phân tử terpenoid giàu ứng suất với hai nối đôi và một dị nguyên tử oxy, nhờ đó có thể làm chất trung gian để xây dựng dẫn xuất thông qua oxy hóa, hydro hóa, mở vòng hoặc tái sắp xếp (ví dụ epoxid hóa/hydroboration–oxy hóa, ozon phân, hóa học Diels–Alder, và metathesis mở vòng/khơi mào cation đối với dẫn xuất phù hợp) nhằm tiếp cận lacton, diol, epoxit, polyme chuyên dụng và các mảnh xây dựng bất đối xứng; trong công nghệ hương liệu–hương vị, một số dẫn xuất của nó được sàng lọc về tiềm năng tạo nốt mùi gỗ–thảo mộc–cam quýt và vai trò “fixative” trong ma trận kỵ nước, còn trong phân tích nó có thể được dùng làm chuẩn tham chiếu hoặc chất kiểm soát quy trình để đánh giá hiệu năng tách GC và hành vi bay hơi của hydrocarbon vòng chứa oxy; cấu trúc cứng vững và độ kỵ nước cũng khiến hợp chất/đẫn xuất của nó hữu ích như thành phần điều chỉnh độ nhớt trong công thức phủ kỵ nước hoặc làm cơ chất mô hình để khảo sát động học, chọn lọc lập thể và hiệu ứng không gian trong phản ứng hữu cơ; với mọi ứng dụng, cần thẩm định tính phù hợp, an toàn và tuân thủ quy định.
