Betel Leaf Essential Oil is steam-distilled from the leaves of Betel plants (Piper betle L.) cultivated in Vietnam.
Betel is deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture. It is not only easy to cultivate and harvest throughout the year, but has also been valued in traditional medicine for generations. Betel Leaf Essential Oil has a warm, spicy, green-herbal aroma reminiscent of Clove and Star Anise. It is particularly valued for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, soothing, deodorizing, and pain-relieving properties.

Blending
Less common than Clove and other spice essential oils, Betel Leaf Essential Oil is a distinctive Vietnamese botanical ingredient for perfumers seeking an unconventional local character.
Its aroma is green, spicy, herbal, and slightly medicinal, with nuances reminiscent of traditional Eastern herbal remedies. It adds a pronounced botanical and Oriental character to green-spicy, herbal, and fougère compositions. Because of its intensity, it should be evaluated at very low dilutions to prevent it from overpowering the formula.
Aromatherapy
Due to its distinctive phenolic compounds, Betel Leaf Essential Oil demonstrates notable antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and deodorizing activity.
These properties are associated with constituents such as eugenol, eugenyl acetate, β-caryophyllene, and chavibetol. In Vietnamese folk medicine, betel leaves have traditionally been used to soothe inflammation, care for blemish-prone skin, and prepare deodorizing mouth rinses. However, because the essential oil is highly concentrated, it must be properly diluted in a suitable carrier and patch-tested before use.
