Flat moon (also known as Thiên Niên Kiện, Ráy Hương) is a well-known indigenous medicinal plant of Vietnam. It grows naturally in humid tropical forests and needs at least 1–2 years to mature and build up its active constituents. The roots are typically harvested and sun-dried for traditional remedies, used for bone and joint issues, numbness in the limbs, and as a general tonic.

The essential oil is steam-distilled from the roots. Its aroma is distinctly herbal—green, warm, earthy, and characteristically medicinal.
