Aldehyde C-18 Coconut, also known as Gamma Nonalactone (CAS# 104-61-0), is a lactone with a characteristic coconut note: creamy, rich, and softly sweet. It is widely used to build tropical, milky, and gourmand facets in fragrance compositions. Although traditionally referred to as an “aldehyde” in perfumery jargon, it is chemically a lactone, offering a distinct fruity–milky profile that brings roundness and smooth volume to a formula.
The scent of Gamma Nonalactone evokes ripe coconut flesh, coconut milk, coconut ice cream, and coconut candies. Behind the main coconut note, there are subtle nuances of peach–apricot, almond milk, and soft cream, making this ingredient much more than just a “coconut note.” It behaves as a full, mouthwatering accord that blends beautifully with vanillin, ethyl maltol, other fruity lactones, creamy–milky notes, and white floral accords.
In formulations, Aldehyde C-18 Coconut is used to emphasize coconut themes in body mists, shower gels, lotions, scented candles, and especially in tropical creations (coconut, tiaré, monoi), sunscreen-inspired accords, dessert-like fragrances, and modern gourmand compositions.
