6-Methyl Coumarin (CAS 92-48-8) is a sweet, aromatic coumarin with a scent reminiscent of hay, tonka bean and subtle vanilla–almond nuances. Its smooth, slightly warm and gently balsamic character, with a soft tobacco facet, brings a cozy, comforting and refined touch to many fragrance compositions. Thanks to its good strength and notable tenacity, 6-Methyl Coumarin is often used as a middle-to-base note to add body and roundness to the overall accord.

In perfumery, 6-Methyl Coumarin is a familiar choice for fougère, chypre, oriental, tobacco and gourmand themes, as well as for woody–ambery structures that need a soft, sweet bridge between notes. It blends particularly well with materials such as vanillin, coumarin, tonka, labdanum, patchouli, sandalwood, tobacco notes and white florals or jasmine, helping to build depth and coherence in the base.

With its pleasant diffusion and stable performance, 6-Methyl Coumarin is also suitable for use in personal care and home fragrance products such as shower gels, soaps, fabric softeners, detergents, scented candles and reed diffusers.
