Applications
Undecen-2-ol (CAS 64391-39-5) is a versatile C11 secondary alkenol: used at very low levels in perfumery to impart green–fatty, slightly floral facets; more commonly employed as an intermediate to make esters (e.g., acetates/propionates) for fragrances, deodorants, and cosmetics; leveraged as a synthetic building block because it combines an –OH and a C=C bond, enabling esterification, etherification, epoxidation, hydroformylation, metathesis, and thiol–ene transformations to access diols, the corresponding ketone (2-undecanone), or acids; converted into surfactants and biolubricant components via ethoxylation/sulfation or long-chain ester formation; used as a functional grafting handle in materials (UV-curable/thiol–ene) to improve adhesion, flexibility, or film properties; serves as a precursor/scaffold for certain agrochemical, pharmaceutical, and insect pheromone intermediates; and is also applied as a reference/analyte in oxidation-catalysis studies and GC/MS method development on unsaturated alcohols (often handled as an E/Z isomer mixture, with isomer selection tailored to the application).
