Applications
Oleic acid, CAS 112-80-1, is a naturally abundant monounsaturated fatty acid found in olive oil, sunflower seed oil and animal tallow; because of its biocompatibility, soap-forming ability and excellent emulsifying properties, it is employed extensively in the manufacture of bar soaps, surfactants, thickeners and foam stabilizers for household detergents; in cosmetics and personal care it acts as moisturizer, penetration enhancer and fragrance fixer in lipsticks, creams and body washes; in pharmaceuticals it serves as transdermal drug carrier, tablet lubricant and microcapsule release modifier; within the food industry it functions as emulsifier, anti-caking agent and precursor of flavor esters; beyond these, the acid is utilized as bio-lubricant, rubber plasticizer, solvent for crop protection formulations, feedstock for biodiesel synthesis and corrosion-inhibiting additive for metalworking fluids, underscoring its importance across green chemistry and renewable energy technologies.
