    Nonyl acetate (CAS 143-13-5) is a fruity, sweet ester naturally found in apples, pears and citrus, therefore widely employed as a flavour additive in beverages, candies and baked goods; in perfumery it supplies a crisp apple-pear top note that rounds off floral and citrus accords in eaux de toilette, soaps and shampoos; in cosmetic and household products it is blended into detergents, air fresheners and scented candles to mask harsh chemical odours; industrially it acts as a semi-volatile solvent for pigment dispersion in paints, printing inks and coatings, and as a diluent in certain ink-jet solvent systems; in agriculture the compound is studied as an insect aggregation pheromone for trapping and monitoring planthoppers and beetles, helping to reduce pesticide use; furthermore, iso-nonyl acetate derivatives serve as plasticisers for cellulose, vinyl and nitrocellulose resins used in adhesives and varnishes.
