Applications
Methyl oleate (CAS 112-62-9) is the methyl ester of oleic acid derived from vegetable oils, widely used as a major biodiesel component and fuel additive that improves lubricity in ultra-low sulfur diesel; a biobased solvent for resins, waxes, mineral oils and agrochemicals, serving as a carrier and diluent in crop-protection formulations; a lubricant and metalworking aid (cutting, stamping, rolling) thanks to excellent boundary lubrication; a bio-plasticizer for polymers, adhesives and sealants; an emollient/surfactant and penetration enhancer in cosmetics, personal care and industrial cleaners, enhancing spreadability and pigment dispersion; a wetting agent, co-solvent and film-formation aid in inks, paints and coatings to help reduce VOCs; a softener and lubricant in textile processing, leather and paper; a mold-release agent and internal/external lubricant for rubber and plastics; an antifoam/defomer in certain aqueous systems; and a versatile chemical intermediate to make value-added oleochemicals such as epoxides, polyols, amides, sulfonates and tailored surfactants, offering the benefits of renewability, biodegradability and low toxicity.
