Applications
Methyl octanoate (also known as methyl caprylate, CAS 111-11-5) is widely employed as a food-grade flavour additive with a rich fruity-fatty coconut-milk nuance, as a fragrance ingredient in essential-oil blends and fine perfumes, as an enhancer in candies, beverages and baked goods, while acting as an inert hydrophobic solvent in inks, coatings and cosmetics, a synthetic intermediate for plasticizers, surfactants and emollients, a lubricant additive for engine oils and medical devices, a model ester for combustion kinetics and catalytic studies in biodiesel research, a calibration and analytical standard in GC-MS/LC-MS, and a precursor for pheromone and bio-pesticide formulations.
