    Methyl geranate (CAS 2349-14-6) is a monoterpenoid ester with a pleasant citrus–rosy odour, commonly used as a fragrance ingredient in fine fragrance, cosmetics, personal care, detergents and air/fabric care to boost citrus/green top notes, refresh accords and mask base off-notes; in flavour work it is incorporated into beverage, confectionery and bakery bases to add citrus–fruity–floral facets and modulate persistence; in agriculture and pest management it has been researched and applied as a semiochemical for lures and population monitoring owing to suitable volatility and a favourable safety profile; in organic synthesis it serves as a bio-based intermediate to geranic acid and other functional esters/amides, as a substrate for biocatalysis, and as a building block for aroma-related terpenoid derivatives; it also finds use as a green co-solvent/additive in controlled-release systems, as a GC–MS analytical standard, and as a core material for microencapsulation or polymer-based controlled release of scents.
