Applications
Humulene epoxide III (CAS 21624-36-2) is used mainly as a research compound: an analytical reference and chemical marker in phytochemical profiling of hop-derived materials, essential oils, and propolis (supporting identification, quantification, and monitoring of oxidation/aging), a scaffold and synthetic intermediate in terpenoid medicinal chemistry to generate new derivatives, a preclinical candidate investigated for anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial/antifungal and tumor-cell cytotoxic activities and for synergy with antibiotics, a lead explored in agrochemical screens for botanical pest and plant-disease control, and a subject of formulation work (e.g., nanoemulsions) to improve solubility and stability for experimental pharma-cosmetic uses; it has no approved therapeutic indication and is primarily used for research.
