Applications
Heptanal (CAS 111-71-7) is a straight-chain aldehyde with a characteristic green, grassy odor that finds extensive use in perfumery to impart fresh nuances to fine fragrances, deodorants, soaps and scented candles; in the food industry it serves as a flavouring ingredient recreating apple, strawberry, citrus and nut notes; it also functions as an intermediate for the manufacture of heptanol, heptanoic acid, oximes and ethoxylated surfactants employed in lubricants, plasticizers, pesticides and printing solvents; in addition, it is exploited as a building block for pharmaceutical synthesis, rubber additives, polyurethane resins, paint preservatives and plant growth regulators, as well as an analytical reagent in laboratory research.
