  • Applications

(-)-Cubebene (CAS 11012-64-9) is a natural sesquiterpene hydrocarbon with a warm woody-peppery, balsamic profile, used primarily as an aroma ingredient to add dry depth and semi-fixative character to woody, amber, and spicy accords in fine fragrances, soaps, shampoos, deodorants, scented candles, and home-care products; in flavors it may be included at trace levels to contribute peppery-resinous nuances in certain spice-inspired compositions; in analysis and quality control it serves as a GC-MS/HPLC reference standard and a qualitative-quantitative marker to standardize, authenticate, and detect adulteration of essential oils (e.g., Piper cubeba, Litsea, cedarwood); preclinical studies also explore antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and insect-repellent potentials, as well as microencapsulation and derivatization strategies to improve stability, volatility control, and scent longevity in lipid-rich formulations.
