Applications
Cedrol (CAS 77-53-2) is a natural sesquiterpene alcohol from cedarwood oils, widely used as a fragrance ingredient with warm woody facets and as a fixative due to its low volatility; it appears in fine fragrances, cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, household detergents, candles, and air-care products, and serves as a precursor to popular derivatives such as cedryl acetate; in personal care and aromatherapy, cedrol provides a calming, grounding base note and odor-masking/skin-conditioning functions; in insect-vector research, it is employed as a behavior-modulating cue (e.g., attracting Anopheles mosquitoes to traps/oviposition sites) to support population monitoring and control, and is being investigated for antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro; additionally, it acts as a useful building block in terpene synthesis and for enhancing fragrance longevity in formulations.
