Applications
L-Carvone (CAS 6485-40-1) is the L-enantiomeric monoterpenoid with a pleasant spearmint scent, used extensively as a flavor in chewing gum, hard candies, toothpaste, mouthwash, beverages and processed foods; it delivers a cooling note to cosmetics, perfumes, shampoos, soaps, deodorants, detergents and air-freshening products; it acts as a natural potato sprout suppressant, insect repellent and bio-pesticide active; and its chirality makes it a valuable scaffold for enantioselective organic synthesis, specialty polymer production, sensing materials and studies in asymmetric catalysis.
