  • Applications

Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT, CAS 128-37-0) is a chain‑breaking phenolic antioxidant widely used to suppress oxidative rancidity and degradation in lipids, thereby extending shelf life and preserving product quality; in foods (additive E321) and animal feed it protects edible oils, ready‑to‑eat cereals, snacks, margarine and vitamin premixes at regulated use levels; in cosmetics/personal care it stabilizes fragrances and oils in creams, lipsticks and sunscreens; in pharmaceuticals it helps stabilize vitamin A, vitamin E, retinoids and oxidation‑sensitive tablet/ointment formulations; in industry it serves as a stabilizer for plastics, rubber, adhesives, inks and packaging materials, prevents oxidative breakdown in fuels, lubricants, hydraulic fluids and biodiesel, and inhibits peroxide formation in stored organic solvents; it is often used synergistically with BHA, propyl gallate or citric acid to enhance performance.
