Applications
Bicyclo(3.1.1)hept-3-en-2-ol, 4,6,6-trimethyl-, (1R,2S,5R)-rel- (CAS 1820-09-3) is a bicyclic monoterpenoid of the pinane family used as a fragrance ingredient in perfumes, soaps, cleaners, and deodorizers to deliver green–woody–pine, herbal and camphoraceous nuances and to modify citrus facets; as a trace flavoring agent in foods, beverages, and confectionery; as a synthetic intermediate (oxidation to the corresponding ketone, hydrogenation, epoxidation, esterification) to access monoterpene derivatives for fragrance and for pharmaceutical/agrochemical intermediates; as a chiral building block and analytical reference in studies of essential oils, natural aromas, and environmental tracers; and it is investigated for antibacterial, antifungal, insect-repellent, and antioxidant effects supporting preservation, personal-care, and cleaning formulations, typically used at low levels due to its strong odor and with adherence to current safety guidance (e.g., IFRA, GHS).
