Applications
Alpha‑Irone (CAS 79‑69‑6) is a key ketone odorant naturally occurring in orris (iris) root, characterized by a powdery violet‑orris, soft woody, slightly fruity profile; it is widely used in fine fragrances and personal care to impart a luxurious orris note, enhance depth, diffusion and longevity; commonly employed to reconstitute violet/orris accords, round off sharp aldehydes, bridge heart‑to‑base transitions, and mask base odors in creams, soaps, shampoos, deodorants, candles, and air‑care; in manufacture it is dosed at very low levels due to high odor potency and cost, and is blended with ionones, other irone isomers, woody materials and musks; it also serves as an analytical reference for orris/orris‑butter quality control, as a material for olfaction research, and in pro‑fragrance or encapsulated slow‑release systems for detergents and fabric care under relevant safety guidance (e.g., IFRA).
