Applications
alpha-Calacorene (CAS 21391-99-1) is a natural sesquiterpene hydrocarbon found in various essential oils, used primarily in fragrance compounding to impart woody, resinous, warm-smoky and slightly spicy nuances to fine fragrances, personal care, and home care (typically at very low levels or as a modifier/blender), and employed in laboratories as an analytical reference for GC–MS/GC–FID profiling of essential oils, as a chemical marker for botanical authentication and quality control, in studies of biotransformation and sesquiterpene biosynthesis, in screening the potential bioactivities of alpha-calacorene–containing plant oils, in olfactory research and training, and in atmospheric chemistry as a representative BVOC to probe secondary oxidant/aerosol formation and to optimize extraction and storage protocols that minimize oxidation or odor drift.
